Tooth Whitening Kits

Tip! · Whitening toothpaste is not as effective as most other treatments and care must be taken to select a toothpaste that is not abrasive. If this method is used, it is best to consult your oral health care professional for information and use a recommended toothpaste.

Before the days of tooth whitening kits, we had to go to the dentist to have our teeth bleached - like having your hair dyed by a hairdresser, or getting your nails done. Now, there are over the counter products available for a do-it-yourself teeth bleaching job. But, like bleaching your own hair, there are risks to skipping the expense of having a professional do it. Select your bleaching product with care.

Some tooth whitening gel is applied to the surface of the teeth and left on overnight. This type of product often contains alcohol or glycerin because you need it to dry quickly once it is applied to your teeth - after all, the mouth is a wet place and if the product does not dry before you close your mouth, some of it will get rubbed off by your lips and tongue. There are two problems with these tooth whitening kits. One is that you may indeed rub some of the gel off, resulting in a patchy bleaching job. The other is that substances like alcohol can have a drying effect on all the tissues of the mouth, and this will contribute to bad breath.

Tip! The simple and straightforward method of tooth whitening is the use of over-the-counter topical teeth whitening products that includes whitening toothpastes and gels, whitening strips, a band aid containing peroxide to place directly on the teeth, are most effective among all other over-the-counter products.

Other tooth whitening kits use bleaching strips that are applied to the teeth. These stay on reliably, but often do not contact the entire surface of the tooth - the indented surfaces between the teeth don’t get bleached while the fronts of the teeth do. This can result in an odd visual effect that is probably not what you want. Depending on the brand and your teeth, you may get satisfactory results with tooth whitening gel and other kits, but you may also get a less that stellar result.

The best tooth whitening gel is one that is applied to the teeth by covering them with a form-fitting tray full of whitening agent. This bathes all surfaces of the tooth in the bleach. The product should contain neither alcohol nor glycerin. Effective bleaching agents usually contain a high concentration of hydrogen peroxide. Clean your teeth thoroughly before using the treatment, and leave the tray on for the time specified in the tooth whitening kits instructions. If you use the right kit, you should get good results without doing any harm to your mouth

Tip! One other option is available if you have tried the tooth whiteners and find that they are too uncomfortable. You can use one of the available tooth whitening toothpastes, which will clean your teeth with a mild abrasive rather than bleach them.

Teeth Whitening

Tip! In contrast, it’s usually the presently cash strapped who prefer to purchase do it yourself teeth whitening kits, them and those with morbid fears of going to their dentist’s clinic. Obviously, there are risks when a person other than a dentist is in put in charge of a teeth whitening treatment even if it’s just as simple as using a whitening toothpaste.

Teeth whitening is a process of lightening the color of teeth. It involves a bleaching process that reduces the discoloration of the enamel and dentin caused due to smoking, aging, consumption of tea, coffee and colas.

You can try tooth whitening if you have healthy teeth without any fillings. Teeth whiteners are not suitable for dark gray stains, crowns, colored fillings and stains due to some medication such as tetracycline.

There are several types of products available for use at home. When selecting a whitener you must look for the ADA Seal for safety and effectiveness. Tooth whiteners gels or strips contain carbamide or hydrogen peroxide as the active bleaching ingredients. The bleaching gel is placed in a thin bleaching tray that fits over the teeth. The tooth whitening strips are placed on the teeth and gently pressed to make a contact between the whitener and the surface of the tooth. Results are usually seen within the first week.

You may experience tooth sensitivity to cold or discomfort in the gums during treatment. These symptoms always disappear within a couple of days after completion of treatment.

Tip! · Whitening toothpaste is not as effective as most other treatments and care must be taken to select a toothpaste that is not abrasive. If this method is used, it is best to consult your oral health care professional for information and use a recommended toothpaste.

The tooth whitening toothpastes help remove surface stain through the action of mild abrasives or chemical polishing agents. Whitening toothpastes with the ADA Seal of Acceptance program do not alter the intrinsic color of teeth, unlike bleaches.

You should never use lemon juice for teeth whitening because vitamin C will cause the teeth to lose calcium, damaging teeth quicker than anything else.
